With Verizon’s myPlan program, subscribers can choose between two plans: Unlimited Welcome and Unlimited Plus. Subscribers on multi-line plans can mix and match between the cheaper Unlimited Welcome plan and the more premium Unlimited Plus plan.
Price Per Line
The table lists the price per line of each plan before taxes + fees and after a discount for enrolling in automatic payments and paper-free billing.
Lines On Account | Unlimited Welcome | Unlimited Plus |
---|---|---|
1 | $65 | $80 |
2 | $55 | $70 |
3 | $40 | $55 |
4 | $30 | $45 |
5+ | $27 | $42 |
Lower Cost Options On Verizon’s Network
At these prices, people that only need a few lines may be better off with service from Verizon’s low-cost brand, Visible. The basic Unlimited plan from Visible is only $30 per month. Visible’s premium plan comes in at $45 per line.
US Mobile is another low-cost option. While US Mobile is not owned by Verizon, its Warp service runs over Verizon’s network and is extremely well-priced. Unlimited plans start at $25 per month and shared data plans are even cheaper.
High-Priority Data
The Unlimited Plus plan includes high-priority data. With high-priority data, Unlimited Plus subscribers may experience better performance than other subscribers when Verizon’s network is congested.
The Unlimited Plus plan does not include high-priority data.
Mobile Hotspot Data
The Unlimited Plus plan allows subscribers to use their phone as a mobile hotspot (allowing other devices, like laptops, to use WiFi to piggyback on your cell phone’s connection).
30GB of full-speed data is included each month with the Unlimited Plus plan. Speeds are reduced thereafter:
The Unlimited Welcome plan does not include any high-speed hotspot data. However, subscribers can still use mobile hotspot data at the previously mentioned reduced speeds of 3Mbps/600Kbps.
A $10 per month add-on offers an additional 100GB of hotspot data for those needing additional mobile hotspot data. It’s unclear whether this perk is available on the Unlimited Welcome plan or just the Unlimited Plus plan.
Ultra Wideband Access
Verizon calls its 5G service that uses high-frequency spectrum “Ultra Wideband.” Ultra Wideband 5G tends to be very fast, but it’s not as widely available as Verizon’s 4G service or Verizon’s lower-frequency 5G.
The Unlimited Plus plan offers full access to Verizon’s Ultra Wideband. Unlimited Welcome subscribers can also access the service, but they’ll be throttled to a maximum of 25Mbps. While 25Mbps is much less than the maximum speeds Ultra Wideband can offer, it’s not a serious limitation for anyone besides power users.
Device Promos
Many of Verizon’s best promotional deals, many offering free or significantly discounted phones, are only available to subscribers on the Unlimited Plus plan.
For subscribers that opt to bring their own phones, subscribers on the Unlimited Plus plan may get a substantially larger promotional credit than Unlimited Welcome subscribers.
Connected Device Discount
Unlimited Plus subscribers are eligible for one 50% off discount on certain data plans for connected devices (e.g., smartwatches, tablets, dedicated mobile hotspots).1
Other Differences
Video Streaming
The Unlimited Welcome Plan throttles video to standard definition (480p). On the Unlimited Plus plan, subscribers can play higher-definition video. However, subscribers need to opt-in for the highest resolutions:
Soft Data Cap
On the Unlimited Welcome plan, subscribers using over 500GB of data in a single month will have speeds reduced to 4Mbps. The Unlimited Plus plan does not have this limitation.
Price Lock
With the Unlimited Plus plan, Verizon guarantees not to raise a subscriber’s price for three years. However, there are a lot of caveats to that guarantee (emphasis mine):
Verizon doesn’t offer a guarantee with the Unlimited Welcome plan.
Home Internet Discount
Subscribers on the Unlimited Plus plan are eligible for a discount that can bring the base price of Verizon home internet products (e.g., Verizon 5G Home or Verizon Fios) down to as low as $25.
A smaller discount, one that can bring the base price as low as $40, is available for Unlimited Welcome subscribers.
Perk Options
Most perks are priced at $10 per month and are available on the Unlimited Welcome and the Unlimited Plus plans. Here are the currently available perks (as of May 2023):
- Disney Bundle (Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+)
- Apple Music Family
- 2TB Verizon Cloud Storage
- Smartwatch Data Service Plan
- Walmart+ Membership
- 100GB Mobile Hotspot Data1
- Apple One Bundle (Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+)2
- 3 TravelPass Days Per Month (for international roaming)3
- $15 +play Credit4
Perk Details & Caveats:
- The hotspot data add-on might not be available for lines on the Unlimited Welcome plan. Verizon’s policy is unclear.
- The family version of the Apple One bundle (sharable with up to 5 people, is $20 per month). The individual version is $10 per month.
- Days can only be used on the line that’s enrolled. These days roll over if they’re unused, but they expire after 12 months.
- The $10 perk gives $15 worth of credit for +play. With +play, subscribers can purchase digital subscriptions to a handful of services like Netflix and HBO Max.
Unlimited Ultimate
Those looking for even more than Unlimited Plus offers may want to consider the Unlimited Ultimate plan. On another page, I cover Unlimited Plus vs. Unlimited Ultimate.
