Millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G uses extremely high frequency signals. This type of 5G is extremely effective for delivering high speeds but terrible for covering large areas. For the most part, millimeter wave service has been rolled out in dense, urban areas. Millimeter wave signals do not travel far and don’t penetrate buildings well.

Millimeter wave 5G deployments in the U.S. typically use spectrum in the 28GHz to 39GHz range. So far, bands n260 and n261 are being used for mmWave 5G in the U.S.
